I am interested in all things technology and perception-related, drawn to the challenge of using technology to match the elegance of nature.
I find mobile world especially appealing for its unique combination of limitations (input methods, output richness, processor speed) and possibilities (portability, location specificity, ubiquity). Since producing J-Pop polyphonic ringtones in Tokyo in the early 2000's, I've had the fortune to work for some of the leaders in multimedia and mobile, in Japan and the U.S. From mobile sound engineering and interactive UI design to helping define the chips in phones and the software that makes them come to life, I've been lucky to have seen where many of the things we take for granted are born.
Technology and perception also intersect at some of my other favorite media, including film sound design, music composition, music engineering, and web design. Since high school, I've been writing and recording music for my various personal projects throughout the years as well as for the soundtracks to some awesome films by awesome people. The process of capturing sound—whether it's by magnetizing tape or encoding 0's and 1's—has fascinated me since multi-tracking songs on a double cassette deck at 13. My love for music creation is rivaled only by sound design, the synthesis of nature through machines.
My other interests include plants, euphotic ecosystems, maps, taxonomy, artisinal tofu, traveling by ship, 8-bit video games, growing my own food, and the DRPK.
